CHITAGONG HILLS TRIBAL PROGRAM

* Started in 1996
* 100 revolving family projects

Types of projects:
* Small animals (goats)
* Cash crops
* Fruit Trees

The 129 churches we are working with are experiencing a wonderful revival. These believers are very poor and live in remote villages. This program has tremendous potential to strengthen the churches and help them become truly self-supporting. The churches have already begun to reach across nearby international borders to plant new churches. The family projects are mainly agricultural, with small animals and cash crops predominating. Fruit tree projects are also beginning to help them establish a long-term economic base.

Prayer: That the Lord will sustain their movement and build a solid foundation in the Body of believers, so that future generations will continue to faithfully follow Him. Also to keep their flame burning bright in evangelism.

CENTRAL BENGAL PROGRAM

* Started in 1997
* 2000 projects funded, at $160/mo for new starts

Types of projects:
Pedal powered van rickshaws used for
cargo and people transport

This program is helping a rapidly growing group of converts to Christianity.
There are now over 50,000 baptized believers, and over 120,000 converts. The initial group of 29 churches has now grown to over 2100. This people movement shows no signs of abating. Severe persecution has claimed the lives of five evangelists. Prayer and a revision of the Bengali Bible is the main force behind this movement. A very encouraging aspect is the fact that all the pastors are being supported by their congregational tithes and offerings, as well as more than 127 evangelists also being supported! All of this without direct foreign support!

Van rickshaws to carry freight and passengers are the most popular projects. The profits from these rickshaws also help families to expand into other entrepreneurial and agricultural projects.

Additionally, FARMS has initiated irrigation pump, rice mill, and tiller projects. The national news paper has featured the irrigation project in a color, full page article.

MALUMGHAT PROGRAM

* Started in 1998
* 60 revolving family projects

Types of projects:
* Agriculture
* Small animal husbandry

This program is with a group of 19 churches made up of Bengali converts. These Christians are very disadvantaged and extremely poor. We expect tremendous impact from our program in the lives of these believers. The projects have the potential to spur the growth and strengthening of the church. Most families are interested in agricultural or small animal husbandry projects.

Prayer: Pray for this program to get up and running effectively so that these believers can find relief from the suffering of poverty.
